From Mike’s Desk …

In our services this Sunday morning (October 4th), we’re going to begin to look together at the Old Testament book of Proverbs – a book that is full of practical, godly wisdom for every-day living. But it’s much more than just a book with lots of “good advice”. It’s a book that tells us that the wisdom that God gives is amongst the most precious of gifts, the foundation for building a successful and worthwhile life.
For devout followers of the Jewish faith, the practice of misvot is very important. This is about living in a way that honours God – not just doing good deeds so as to try and earn His blessing and reward, but living so as to please Him in your daily life, because of your love for Him, and for your fellow human beings. The Jewish Rabbis viewed the book of Proverbs as the means by which a person is enabled to know what such a moral and God-honouring life looks like, and thus to choose to live such a life – the only way to have a life of great joy and happiness.
