In two weeks time we have a General Election. I’m certainly not going to suggest who you should vote for – partly because I’m still not sure myself who I’m going to vote for! But here are a few things which you may find interesting and helpful …
This Tuesday evening (28th), from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, at Wellington High School (249 Taranaki Street, Mount Cook), Maxim Institute (a Christian organisation) is hosting a public election debate (free entry, but donations towards expenses appreciated). Confirmed participants at this stage are: Heather Roy (ACT), Virginia Horrocks (Green), Gordon Copeland (Kiwi), Stephen Franks (National), Vaughan Smith (United Future); candidates representing other parties are still to be confirmed. If you wish to, you can go to www.nzvotes.org and submit a question for the debate.
Also, in our foyer, we have copies of four different publications which you may find helpful: there are two leaflets written by Wellington pastor Rasik Ranchord – Voting Christianly 2008, and Should Christians Be Involved in Politics?; there is Value Your Vote Election 08 sent to us by Family First, outlining the voting record of M.P.s on various issues; and there are copies of the latest issue of CANVAS, the TSCF magazine, which has an election focus. You are welcome to help yourself to copies of any or all of these.
