From Mike’s Desk

June 10th, 2008 by Mike Enright

I will be away during this coming week, participating as a leader at Xtend – an annual?Baptist Youth Ministries event for 16 to 18 year olds.? Xtend aims to strengthen the faith of the young people attending (there’ll be about 350 of them this year), and to help them become committed and lifelong followers of Jesus, developing their gifts and giving them a sense of God’s call to mission and service.? In the 8 years that Xtend has been happening, it has profoundly impacted the lives of hundreds of young people, and many of those who were participants in earlier years are now returning as leaders.?????????????????

I also want to comment briefly on and?commend “Making Sense”, the?series of public forums being held at Karori Baptist Church, which will explore the implications for faith of contemporary views of science. I am not a scientist – in fact, I turned my back on all science subjects at the end of my fourth form year at school! However, I do enjoy thinking, and wondering, and questioning, and having my mind stimulated with new ideas … and I am looking forward enthusiastically to hearing the rest of the?top quality speakers who have been lined up to participate in these forums. I also know that the people who are organising these forums are people of integrity and intelligence, and therefore I’m confident that they will be extremely worthwhile occasions.
